MARTIN, Tenn; A tragic incident occurred early Friday morning in Martin, Tennessee, resulting in the death of a Weakley County deputy. The deputy was shot while responding to a report of gunfire at the Days Inn hotel. Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist the Martin Police Department and located a suspicious vehicle leaving Pocket’s Gas Station at 821 University Street.
According to Police Chief Fuqua, the suspect in the vehicle suddenly began firing at the officers, hitting the WCSO deputy. The injured deputy was quickly transported to Volunteer Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The loss is a devastating blow to the law enforcement community and the local residents who knew him.
