Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred late Friday evening in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. The incident took place around 8:50 p.m. on January 30, 2026, on the 6500 block of Boydton Plank Road (Route 1).

According to the preliminary investigation, a 75-year-old man named Linwood Earl Williams, of Snow Hill, North Carolina, was involved in the incident. Williams had exited his vehicle, which was stopped in the turn lane leading into the Aldi Distribution Center. While he was speaking with the driver of a tractor-trailer that was stopped behind him, Williams was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Route 1. At the time of the crash, Williams was standing in the northbound travel lane, making him vulnerable to oncoming traffic.

Emergency responders rushed Williams to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, but despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries. The investigation reveals that the vehicle responsible fled the scene immediately after the collision, and authorities have not yet identified or described the suspect vehicle.
