Terry Lee Thomas, a Florida man with a lengthy criminal history, has been charged in connection with the 2010 shooting of Tamesha Doreen Miles. The incident occurred on October 30, 2010, when Ms. Miles was sitting in her parked vehicle and was struck by five gunshots. At the time, she was approximately four months pregnant. She was critically injured but stabilized after being rushed to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Thomas, then 37 years old, was arrested shortly after the shooting and held in the Polk County Jail on charges including attempted first-degree murder and other violent offenses. Law enforcement officials revealed that prior to this arrest, Thomas had been released on bond following an earlier suspicion of aggravated battery. His criminal record is extensive, with court documents showing he had been booked over 30 times over the past two decades for a range of serious charges, such as kidnapping, battery, theft, possession of bomb-making devices, and armed robbery.
In the years following the 2010 shooting, Thomas faced additional legal issues. He eventually pleaded guilty in a separate case involving the fatal shooting of another individual as well as the injury of Ms. Miles. Prosecutors stated that the victim was shot while sitting in her vehicle during the 2010 incident. Thomas’s plea resulted in a prison sentence exceeding ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
The 2010 shooting remains a tragic chapter in the community’s history, highlighting the dangers of gun violence and the importance of accountability. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and seek justice for Ms. Miles and her family. Despite his long history of arrests and convictions, the recent charges mark a significant step toward addressing the violence associated with Thomas’s criminal activity.
This case underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces with repeat offenders and the devastating impact gun violence has on victims and their loved ones. The community remains hopeful that justice will be fully served and that efforts to prevent similar tragedies will continue.
