It is with profound sadness that we mourn the peaceful passing of Henry Roukema of London, Ontario, who left this world on January 28, 2026, surrounded by his beloved partner and lifelong companion, Janet. Henry’s life was a testament to love, compassion, and unwavering service, leaving an indelible mark on his family, friends, colleagues, and countless patients whose lives he touched through his remarkable career and generous spirit.
Henry is deeply mourned by those who knew him best—his partner Janet, his three adult children, Leah, Mark, and Paul, his mother Didy, and his siblings Ruby Askes, Heather Roukema-Gritter (Roy), Trish Turkstra (Andrew), Ray (Eppie), and Cliff (Esther). He also leaves behind extended family, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues. He was predeceased by his father, Job Roukema, his sister Nienke (Len Batterink), along with several other beloved family members whose memories remain close to his loved ones’ hearts.
A gifted and highly respected physician, Henry dedicated over 30 years to neonatology at St. Joseph’s Hospital and London Health Sciences Centre. His gentle skill, empathy, and unwavering dedication provided comfort and hope to families during their most vulnerable moments. Beyond his clinical work, Henry served as a mentor and educator, shaping generations of medical professionals. His leadership, including roles such as Director of Nurseries, exemplified his commitment to excellence, kindness, and service. The medical community admired him for his integrity, compassion, and dedication to improving neonatal care.
Despite the demands of his career, Henry always prioritized his family. He cherished home life—tending his garden, preparing meals for loved ones, golfing, and enjoying travel or quiet moments at the cottage with Janet, his children, and friends. His nurturing spirit extended beyond his family to patients and colleagues alike, inspiring many with his kindness and humility.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and offer condolences on Sunday, February 8th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sunningdale Golf Club in London. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario or a charity of your choice, reflecting Henry’s lifelong commitment to caring for others.
