Accident on Howard Frankland Bridge Today: Fatal Crash on Howard Frankland Bridge

Hubbard County, MN Death: Mourns Douglas and Tiffany Stewart After Deadly Train Collision

An accident on the Howard Frankland Bridge today has resulted in a tragic crash, drawing immediate response from emergency crews and causing significant traffic disruptions. The incident occurred late Monday night on the southbound lanes of Interstate 275, just south of mile marker 34 near the Pinellas-Hillsborough county line. The crash involved multiple vehicles within an active construction zone, leading to one confirmed fatality and several injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 37-year-old man from Musella, Georgia, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound just before 10 p.m. when he unexpectedly entered a closed lane in the construction area. In doing so, he struck a parked Ford F-550 work truck operated by a Tampa-based construction crew. The impact was severe, and the Georgia man tragically died from his injuries. Three construction workers in the Ford F-550 were injured but are expected to recover, as they were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Debris from the collision also struck a third vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old from Largo, who was unharmed.

Authorities emphasize the dangers of work zones and urge drivers to obey lane closures and reduce speed to protect construction personnel and fellow motorists. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with law enforcement reviewing evidence and circumstances surrounding the collision.

Traffic flow was heavily impacted, with lane closures leading to significant backups during peak travel times. Emergency response and cleanup efforts caused delays, and many drivers were advised to seek alternate routes and exercise caution when approaching the bridge.

Further updates are expected as officials continue their investigation and release additional information about the crash and any related traffic advisories. Motorists traveling across the Howard Frankland Bridge and surrounding I-275 corridor are reminded that construction activities increase safety risks. Adhering to posted speed limits and work zone instructions is essential to prevent future tragedies and ensure everyone’s safety on the road.
